The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai word for “endless plain”, and no description fits better. Established as a national park in 1951 and recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, it protects one of the oldest and most intact ecosystems on the planet.
Here, over a million wildebeest and hundreds of thousands of zebra and gazelle follow the rains in a continuous cycle, while lions, leopards, cheetahs and elephants thrive across its grasslands, woodlands and river valleys.
